We Are Cutting Our Cake and Eating it TWO!

A cake cutting ceremony held yesterday at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, in Niagara Falls (SCCN) celebrating the important milestone of the Centre’s second successful year in operation.

The afternoon event featured brief remarks by local dignitaries including: Jim Diodati, Niagara Falls Mayor, Wayne Thomson, Chairman of the Board, Scotiabank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls City Councillor, former Niagara Falls Mayor and Kerry Painter, SCCN President & General Manager. Joining this week’s celebration will be a number of clients, regional partners and SCCN employees.

“The Scotiabank Convention Centre continues to prove its worth to our city,” said Jim Diodati, Niagara Falls Mayor. “The convention centre has served as a magnet for new and exciting events, which have impacted our local economy with an influx of $9.3 million. The convention centre brings us closer towards becoming a year-round destination… to both tourists and business travelers.”

“It brings me great pride to see this enterprise bear fruit,” said Wayne Thomson, Chairman of the Board, Scotiabank Convention Centre, referring to the long road the convention centre travelled before it was fully realized. “It’s wonderful to see how the Convention Centre naturally compliments the diverse selection of business, entertainment, and tourist facilities now available in Niagara.”

“Every day brings new and exciting events,” said Kerry Painter, Scotiabank Convention Centre President & General Manager who joined the SCCN in early 2008, and has been instrumental in the construction, grand opening, and on-going successful operation of the $100 million facility. “Whether it is setting the Fallsview Theatre stage for leading scientists on artic oceanography; serving dinner for over a 1,000 guests in the Peller Estates Ballroom; transforming our Exhibit Hall into a massive tradeshow or to a concert hall to host Grammy Award winning artists.”

In just two years, the Scotiabank Convention Centre has impressively welcomed over half a million guests and visitors from across Canada and the United States through 259 events of all shapes and sizes. With an outstanding 100% return rate, meeting and event planners have shown their appreciation for the high level and overall high quality of both the facility and destination that they have come to expect. This year the SCCN welcomed a wide range of successful corporate and public events, such as: Investors Group, Niagara Falls Comic Con, Canadian Tire, Niagara Food & Wine Expo, Greater Niagara Home & Garden Show, Canadian Pool & Spa Expo, Canadian Greenhouse Conference, Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Convention, and the Niagara Sportsmen Show.

The SCCN team understands the important role ‘service’ plays in its success, having recently achieved scored 92.8% in Overall Client Satisfaction in client surveys. Living the brand and building a culture geared towards creating and delivering ‘UnConventional Experiences’ has been a key goal through a various internal employee initiatives. Their efforts have been recognized and, in 2012, the Centre was named ‘Achievers Top 50 Most Engaged Workplaces in Canada.’ The award recognizes leadership and innovation within the workplace. “With each crazy new adventure that comes our way it allows our team to challenge themselves, learn and climb to new heights,” added Kerry.
